Alumna on Being One of the First Female Cal Poly Students

From 1939 until 1956, women were not allowed to attend Cal Poly. In the fall of 1956, approximately 200 women came to Cal Poly to study specialized majors, such as home economics or agricultural journalism.

Karen White (Journalism, '61) was part of that first group of re-admitted female students. She was also the first female sports editor for El Mustang.

Recent alumna Leah Horner (Journalism, '17) interviewed White on what life was like during those pioneering years and what it means to her now.
