Brandon Downing

Brandon Downing is currently a strategy, policy, and organizational effectiveness expert with Pacific Gas and Electric Company at Diablo Canyon Power Plant, a position he has held since July of 2023. Prior to joining the team at PG&E, Brandon worked in broadcast television at KSBY-TV for 27 years, most recently as marketing and creative services director. He started his broadcast career as an intern in the station’s promotion department before being hired in news, serving as production manager and director of the top-rated evening newscasts for 12 years. 

Brandon’s communication skills are diverse. His technical background in editing, writing, producing, and directing, combined with his strategic and thoughtful thinking made him a key asset in many areas of the television station. While at KSBY, he earned numerous industry recognitions from the Associated Press, the Radio Television News Directors Association, and multiple regional Emmy Awards.

Brandon is active locally in the Central Coast community, serving on numerous non-profit boards such as the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center (FPAC), the Cal Poly Athletics Stampede Club, the advisory council for Old Mission School, and is a proud member of the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. He’s also served on the board of directors for the San Luis Obispo County YMCA, United Way of Northern Santa Barbara County, Downtown SLO, and Leadership San Luis Obispo where he served two terms as board chair.

Brandon spent most of his childhood in the small coastal California town of Cambria near Hearst Castle and graduated from Cal Poly with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. He and his wife Shannon (also a Cal Poly Journalism grad) live in Arroyo Grande with their 12-year-old son.
