Cal Poly Kennedy Library to Exhibit ‘100 Years of Delivering the News’ Oct. 14 – Dec. 9

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly is celebrating the centennial anniversary of its student newspaper in an exhibit, “100 Years of Delivering the News,” at Kennedy Library Oct. 14 through Dec. 9. The public is invited to view the exhibit and come to the opening reception from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, on the second floor of the Kennedy Library.

The Journalism Department and Kennedy Library collaborated to develop the exhibit using archives and student-led research going back to the paper’s 1916 beginning. The exhibit showcases the history of journalism at Cal Poly along with the compelling story of the future of media.

“Journalism has always been an integral part of Cal Poly’s campus, seamlessly transforming as technology changed,” said Catherine Trujillo, curator at Kennedy Library. “The exhibit honors the students who tirelessly built what we know today as Mustang News -- a multiplatform media team of student journalists, videographers, artists, on-air staff, sales representatives, printers and event planners.”

Visitors to the library can also get a behind-the-scenes look at the student newspaper’s complete digitization and the ways 100 years of data can be visualized by visiting the companion exhibit, “Reading the Headlines: Using Digital Tools to Mine the Mustang News” in the library’s Special Collections and Archives, Room 409.

The exhibit and opening reception are free and open to the public. For more information, parking availability, and exhibit hours, go to: http://lib.calpoly.edu/mustang100.
