Alumni Update

Brooke Sperbeck (Journalism, '14) was recently promoted to account executive at Lucas Public Affairs in Sacramento. In her new position, she is taking on more responsibility for managing projects that support clients in the areas of education, energy, health care, and travel and tourism.

Benjamin Egel (Journalism, '16) is now the business reporter for the Amarillo Globe-News in Texas.

Jordan Bell (Journalism, '13) is a producer for Panoply Media in New York. Panoply is the podcasting network for Slate. Bell has produced the Vulture TV podcast for New York Magazine and Slate’s The Moment with Brian Koppelman and a new show called Good One, a podcast about jokes. Bell lives in Brooklyn.

Dillon Payne (Journalism, '16) is a production assistant at FOX40 News in Sacramento.

Mark Willard (Journalism, '97) is the host of “The Mark & Rich Show” along with former NFL lineman Rich Ohrnberger on XTRA 1360 Fox Sports in San Diego. He recently designed a course in Advanced Sportscasting for Cal Poly and is teaching it in spring quarter.

Raiza (Canelon) Giorgi (Journalism, '08), publisher of the Santa Ynez Valley Star and Santa Barbara Family and Life magazine, was recently named a finalist for the Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award in Santa Barbara. Giorgi started the Santa Ynez Valley Star as a monthly publication in February 2016 and grew it to a bi-monthly publication. She took on the Santa Barbara Family and Life Magazine in January 2017.

Clifford E. Lee (Journalism, '57) passed away on June 6, 2016, at his home in Whittier. He is survived by his wife, Linda L. Lee, and two sons.
