Alumni Update

David Aguilar (Journalism ’14) is working as a producer at KCRA 3 in Sacramento. His duties include producing an hour-long noon newscast and a two-hour morning newscast on weekends. His producing work includes writing on-air copy, creating graphics and managing crews in the field.

Amy Checho (Journalism ’13): graduated from San Diego Sate University, earning her master’s degree in mass communication and media studies. She now works at Rachel Kay Public Relations in San Diego as an account coordinator.

Steve Chesterman (Journalism ’96) was named vice president of Pascale Communications, a public relations firm specializing in health care communications, including medical writing, event planning and social media. 

Christina Favuzzi (Journalism ’15) is a reporter, anchor and weather forecaster at KSBY TV News in San Luis Obispo. Favuzzi reports on local and breaking news during the week, anchors on the weekends and works as a fill-in weather forecaster several times a month.

Devon Goetz (Journalism ’83) is the new general manager at The Tribune in San Luis Obispo.  She is responsible for day-to-day decisions at the paper and reports to the publisher.

Erin Green (Journalism ’00) is managing editor for technology communications at Facebook.

Hope Hanselman (Journalism ’12) is a reporter for WLOS-TV in Asheville, North Carolina. Her job duties include turning out daily and investigative stories on deadline; filling in as an anchor on morning and evening shows; and reporting live in the field covering breaking news, severe weather, and local events.

David Kraft (Journalism ’86) is senior director/executive editor for news operations at ESPN in Connecticut. He is now in charge of all news operations for both television and digital platforms.

Lindsay MacLeod (Journalism ’13): Lindsay MacLeod took her journalism skills to the Bay Area where she is a news producer for the KRON 4 Morning News in San Francisco.

Mike McMillan (Journalism ’91) has recently self-published “Wildfire West – Wildland Firefighting Pictorial,” a photographic record of his 27-year career as a smokejumper, hotshot and emergency firefighter.

Kyle Shields (Journalism ’15) is coordinating producer and on-air talent on 93.3 KZOZ in San Luis Obispo. He is also the producer for 98.1 KJUG, Q104.5 & Krush 92.5 and 93.3 KZOZ.

Whitney (Diaz) Szentesi (Journalism ’08) is now the social media analyst for San Luis Obispo County. She also teaches Public Relations Writing & Editing (JOUR 342) in the journalism department.

Ed Zuchelli (Journalism ’14) After spending two years at KSBY during college, Zuchelli left after graduation to work at KIRO-TV, the CBS station in Seattle. He spent a year there honing his skills in producing breaking news coverage. He currently produces the weekday morning show at KCRA-TV in Sacramento alongside fellow Cal Poly graduate David Aguilar.
