KCPR is No. 1

KCPR was recognized this fall as the No. 1 college radio station by Great Value Colleges.

who has been a part of KCPR’s team
since his sophomore year.

The title was awarded based on the station's offerings, its dedication to students and culture, and general excellence. KCPR ranked ahead of 29 other stations, including the college radio stations of California State University, Long Beach; Georgetown University; and University of California, Berkeley.

After receiving the award in September, this year’s general manager Brian Robbins, a senior journalism student, noted that he was especially proud of the KCPR staff.

In addition to the No. 1 ranking, the station has the largest following on Spotify of any college station, and its website now features a professional look and plenty of opportunities for interaction. Robbins noted that the growth of KCPR’s Spotify account and website are part of the movement toward strengthening the brand of the station.

The station is looking to expand its collaborative efforts with Mustang News and the student television station, grow its campus presence, and become a name that people trust and want to work with, Robbins said. By doing so, Robbins hopes that he can build on the station’s strengths and guarantee a bright future for KCPR.

Archives Seeking KCPR Mementos for 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Cal Poly University Archives is seeking donations in all formats to mark the 50th anniversary of the radio station. Letters, flyers, shirts, buttons, photographs, and all other KCPR memorabilia are being sought to help celebrate the accomplishments of the station's first 50 years. So if you own any KCPR mementos, time to dig them out! It would be tremendously helpful for KCPR alumni to digitize tapes and then donate both the tapes themselves and the digital files. For the digital files, uncompressed, 24-bit Broadcast WAVE files (.wav), with a 48kHz sampling rate is preferred. These donated files will then be prioritized for addition to the Online Archive. For further details, email the archives at archives@calpoly.edu using the subject line “KCPR.”
