Around the Block Podcast Features Two Journalism Alumni

In the latest episodes of journalism senior Megan Schellong’s podcast, “Around the Block,” she sits down for separate interviews with Armando Torres Garcia (Journalism, ‘13) and Julia Prodis Sulek (Journalism, ‘86).

 

Julie Prodis Sulek
Prodis Sulek is part of the team that earned the East Bay Times a Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News for its coverage of the Oakland Ghost Ship Fire in summer 2017. She was previously a Pulitzer finalist in 1997 for her work for the Associated Press. She talks with Schellong about her long career covering breaking news and journalism ethics in the coverage of the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995.

Armando Torres Garcia
Torres Garcia is a multimedia journalist for ABC News in New York. He visited Cal Poly in March to talk with journalism classes and join a panel following the screening of “Latinos Beyond Reel.” Here we learn about his inspiration and philosophy for journalism and why he loves storytelling. In the second half of the interview, he tells the full-circle story of his childhood dream.
