A third generation native of the Central Coast, with family roots deep in early Southern California film production, Thomas came into the Journalism Department after spending more than 20 plus years in the broadcast television industry. 

Thomas serves as the Broadcast Specialist, Engineer and is an Adjunct Professor for the Journalism Department.  He instructs, advises and maintains legendary college radio station KCPR-FM, campus and San Luis Obispo County's cable TV station CPTV, as well as assisting and maintaining the department's various leading Mustang Media Group labs and media enterprises.

A 1996 graduate of Northern Arizona University with a BS in Broadcast Communications, Thomas held several Videojournalist positions, including serving in the capacities of Chief Videojournalist, News Operations Manager and interim News Director at CBS, Fox and NBC network affiliates in the Pacific Southwest.

Earning multiple Associated Press Mark Twain awards, APTRA Golden Mike awards and involved with NATAS Emmy award winning stories, Thomas has always had a interest in not only in the craft, but in the technology which creates those stories.  Maintaining his multi-media roots, Thomas remains active in producing, directing and engineering for live TV, radio and digital broadcast productions for KCPR, CPTV, Cal Poly, as well as local and regional network television affiliates.
